In my own experience, I learned that the best way is to have templates, tips, guidelines, and, of course, persistence. No matter what you do, if you give up too early, you won't get to your goal.

Here we go, how can you increase your score in the PTE Reading Section?
Tips For Multiple-choice, Choose Single Answer
- Quickly look at the questions before reading the passage, to help you find only the information you need.

Skim the passage and try to grasp the main idea.

Once you identify the main idea, slow down and look for the supporting ideas and details.
- If necessary, read the questions and options again. If you can find the answer, choose it. Otherwise, rule out the ones that are incorrect and go from there.

Remember, any questions left unanswered are marked as incorrect, so do not leave any unanswered.

Spend no more than 2 minutes per question, or you may run out of time.
Tips For Multiple-choice, Choose Multiple Answers
Here you will be given a number of responses and more than one is correct.

Multiple choice questions can be tricky and challenging. Make sure to read all the information carefully. I won't add an image as it is similar to the previous exercise.

Quickly read the questions and options before reading the passage.

Identifying adjectives, nouns, and repeated words can help you find the correct answers.

If you cannot find the correct answers, rule out the ones which are least likely to be right.

Spend no more than about 3 minutes on each question to avoid running out of time.
3. Tips for Re-Order Paragraphs
- Look for the topic sentence, enabling you to identify the beginning of the passage. Unlike other sentences in a paragraph, the topic sentence does not start with a linking word, such as “however” or “therefore.” Linking words can then start to help you, for example, the second paragraph may start with, “Firstly”, and the next one with, “Secondly”, and so on.

Look for any time-related phrases that indicate a certain order in paragraphing. Also, specific word types like nouns, pronouns, and adjectives can help you establish paragraph order.

4. Reading — Fill In The Blanks

Begin by quickly skimming the text to get the main idea of the passage.

Look for words that often go together, such as “police station”, “environmentally-friendly”.

Make sure you understand the context of the sentence before you choose a word. For example, “watching” and “looking” infer different meanings. (refer to collocation list).

The words provided to fill the gaps can be tricky. Be careful because even though some words look similar, they have different meanings or should be used in different contexts.
