Are exam questions repeated?
While familiarizing yourself with the exam format is important, your strategy should mostly focus on improving your overall fluency and proficiency in English. This is the central standard to reach the highest score of 90.
How are scores calculated in bands?
All of the questions are scored in bands, but there are two grading methods depending on the exercises. The first approach consists of getting one point per correct answer, and zero points for the wrong ones. Here you do not have to worry about negative scoring.
For example, it is the case of Highlight Summary, Select Missing Word, or Multiple Choices-Single Answers, whereas the following second grading technique applies to Multiple Choices-Multiple Answers. The second method is based on partial credit, which implies you score points when you are right, but the scoring software deducts some if you are incorrect. It means the bad answers cancel the points earned by the good ones. Even though some of your responses are perfect, you may end up with 0 points.
Thus beware of most of the Speaking and Writing tasks, for instance, except for Answer Short Question.
- If you score between 79 and 90, you are considered as very good, and/or an expert.
- good for 65-79.
- competent with 50 to 65.
- and when below, it implies a modest or a limited level.

How is it scored?
Your score evaluates your English level on a scale from 10 to 90.
- If you score between 79 and 90, you are considered as very good, and/or an expert.
- good for 65-79.
- competent with 50 to 65.
- and when below, it implies a modest or a limited level.
The exam tests your performance on 20 different items types, which include tasks in the test consisting of:
- instruction,
- questions or prompts,
- answer opportunities and scoring rules
These items are developed in 70 to 91 items or exercises. Two pillars are the base of the evaluation:
- the communicative skills, which entail listening, reading, speaking and writing, on a range of 10 to 90. This section assesses your overall control of the language. Therefore, the evaluation crosses items over each other, such as reading and speaking, listening and writing, listening and speaking, listening and reading, or reading and writing.
- the enabling skills measure the performance level of 'your grammar, oral fluency, pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary and written discourse', on 10 to 90 points for each aptitude.
You need to know that these enabling skills do not get graded if the content or the form of your answer does not comply with the instructions. If your writing is off-topics or exceeds the number of words limit, your high-level of vocabulary or grammar does not score you any points. None of your enabling skills do in this case. When you receive your score report, you will notice a graph, which shows your performance for each of your communicative and enabling skills.
