PTE reading is the second part of the PTE Exam and contains 5 types of exercises. It will take you between 32 to 41 minutes to complete. This part of the test will assess your PTE reading and writing skills. At the exam, you will have to answer to 15-20 questions for the reading module.
PTE reading exercises
I will briefly go over the five tasks of the PTE reading section to give you an introduction and the essential things to take into consideration when you practice or pass the PTE reading section. Here is the list of exercises ordered, as it will appear in the exam reading format.

The 5 PTE Reading Exercises
1) Multiple-choice, Choose Single Answer
This first task will judge your reading ability.
- You'll see a text prompt that contains up to 300 words.
- Choose the correct option (1 only). You will get either 1 or 0.
- You'll find 2 to 3 of them per exam.
- Spend no more than 2 minutes on each of them.
- This task is relatively easy and doesn't have a significant impact on your exam score.
2) Multiple-choice, Choose Multiple Answers
This second task will judge your reading ability.
- You'll see a text prompt that contains up to 300 words.
- Choose the most suitables options (many).
- You will score 1 for each correct answer, -1 for each incorrect answer. You cannot get less than 0.
- You'll find 2 to 3 of them per exam.
- Spend no more than 3 minutes on each of them.
- This task is of medium difficulty but doesn't have a significant impact on your exam score.
3) Re-order Paragraphs
This third task will judge your reading ability.
- You'll see a text prompt that contains up to 50 words.
- Reorder the paragraph.
- You will receive 1 point per correct pair and full mark if you've reordered correctly the whole text.
- You'll find 2 to 3 of them per exam.
- Spend no more than 3 minutes on each of them.
- This task is of medium difficulty and doesn't have a significant impact on your exam score.
4) Reading: Fill in the Blanks
This fourth task will judge your reading ability.

Find the 3 to 5 missing words from a selection of 8 words.

You'll score 1 point per correct word.

5) Reading and Writing: Fill in the Blanks
The last task will judge your reading and writing abilities.
- You'll see a text prompt that contains up to 80 words.
- There will be up to 5 five words to find. Click the drop down and select the correct option.
- You'll score 1 point per correct answer.
- You'll find 5 to 6 of them per exam.
- Spend no more than 3 minutes on each of them.
- This task is harder as it tests you on two abilities: reading and writing. Make sure to practice this one a lot to make sure you perform. It will affect your score in the reading and writing sections.
